This was our engine entry in the 2008 Amsoil/ Mopar
Muscle Magazine Engine Challenge. The contest was for stock stroke 440 Wedge engines, but the catch was that
everybody had to use the same cylinder heads. It was exciting! You can see first hand how
we build our engines.
This is the foundation of our contest entry. A good solid 1971, 440 block core. Bored 0.030" from stock,
this block still has a lot of life left in it.
Milodon's main caps were used on all five main caps positions, in addition to their high quality, bullet-proof main caps, their
main studs were used also to hold everything together. We do this treatment to all 440 block cores for strength and
durability. Note the orange colored oil-shedding paint on the block interior. We do that to all our engines.
The crankshaft is a 1018 steel 440 crankshaft. Turned 0.010" under on the rods and mains, it was detailed and balanced
to within 1/2 a gram for our application.
Oliver Parabolic forged I-beam connecting rods were used in the build of our engine. These are some of the finest,
strongest connecting rods available for precision built racing and street engines.
Total Seal AP-steel gapless top rings followed by napier faced 2nd rings all backed up by their low tension oil controls.
Total Seal rings are used in all engine builds because of there very high quality and consistent high level sealing ability.
Fully coated Ross pistons and cylinder heads help us to control the heat propagading through the parts to help make max
power and add longevity to the powerplant. We use these types of coatings in all our engine builds. They are the
most advanced coatings available, and contain real gold!
Milodon's single idler gear drive will keep our engine in perfect time. An easy to use and adjust unit the Milodon
gear drive is a high quality component used when precise cam timing is needed for the utmost accuacy and reliabilty.
T &D roller rockers, shafts, and hold downs were used to keep the valves opening and closing correctly. A strong,
accurate valvetrain is a sure key to help wring out as much power as possible.
ATI Super Damper keeps all the harmonic vibrabrations down to a minimum, while our under-driven pulley arrangement reduces
horsepower robbing waterpump impeller rotation.
Milodon's single line external oiling system ensures that we will zero oiling problems. Milodon's system is more
than capable of delivering the right amount of oil and proper oil presure that this engine needs. We use Milodon oiling
system products on all our engines.
MSD's Pro-Billet distributor is used to control the spark timing and ignition system. MSD's commitment to high
quality parts ensures that we won't have any problems lighting off our contest engine.
Two Holley 650cfm HP series carburetors atop a tunnel ram plumbed with a Magnaflow regulator and Earls latest braided
lines will meter the fuel and help us make tremendous horsepower.
The completed engine. We enjoyed building it for this contest!
We are very proud of our entry in the 2008 Mopar Muscle Magazine engine builders challenge. We think that
we have built a strong running engine that should place well. This engine is of course for sale
and can be yours. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call or email. We are happy to answer your
questions.
This engine is for sale on EBAY!
